We are all googled
Archived post from 2010, recovered from my old blog. The technology described here is probably out of date. Original at the Internet Archive.
I have been flooded with all those announcements from all over the world about new superphone Google Nexus One. And I have to admit that I would love to own one.
Seeing all that rumor around Nexus One I realized how much dependent on Google services and software I am. Every morning when my phone (Google Android) wakes me up I turn on my laptop and check my email (GMail). I prefer web browser (Google Chrome) access over a standalone email client. I am getting lots of messages reminding me about important occasions (Google Calendar) and important events and facts (Google Alerts). I often browse news groups (Google Groups) and blogs (Blogger). I subscribe (Google Reader) to favorite ones not to miss anything interesting.
At work, Google Search engine helps me quickly find information I need. With search results you always get advertisements (Google Ads adn Google Adsense). Google Web History keeps track of my searches. Google Translate lets me translate text and whole pages to/from languages I do not speak as fluent as I would like to.
I share a couple of documents (Google Documents) and notes (Google Notebook) with my wife so we can both edit them. Sometimes we chat with Google Talk. We also share our photos (Google Picasa and Picasa Web Albums) with our family and friends. And You may also forgot that YouTube is also Google.
I use Google Maps to plan my trips, find routes and addresses and sometimes also to store my GPS traces. I discover new interesting places to visit and rediscover places I already visited with Panoramio and Google Earth.
Even now, when I am writing this post, my home router use (Google DNS) to resolve IP address of this site, Google FeedBurner will update blog’s RSS channel. And when you, dear Reader, opened this page your browser just updated Google Analytics statistics.
There are many other examples of Google services people use: Google Desktop, Google Voice, Google Gadgets, Google App Engine, Google Applications, Google Sites. One day millions or cars will be guided by Google Navigation to their destination and millions of nettops and TV sets will be controlled by Chrome OS.
Recent Google acquisitions like AdMob or Gizmo5t show that the conquest is not over yet…
That reminds me a funny YouTube movie.
